Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned.
- Drone pilot, providing seeding service, like cover crops.
- Flexible, able to work a range of hours based on seasonal work.
- Oversee the Reinvest in Minnesota Program, and other conservation easement programs.
- Oversee the Minnesota Buffer Law, Wetland Conservation Act, and other regulatory programs as directed.
- Assist SWCD staff with all duties assigned by the Resource Conservationist or District Administrator.
- Conduct program inspections and monitoring duties.
- Performs technical work, according to the NRCS Technical Guide and within ecological Job Approval Authority, without detailed instructions, after adequate training.
- Promotes the conservation philosophy of the District, as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
- Oversee and perform the duties associated with the Renville County Rain Garden ordinances.
- Grant tracking, reporting and time management.
- Obtain and maintain UAS Drone pilot certificate (commercial unmanned aircraft systems)
- Drill rental program and Shed Maintenance.
- Frequent towing and trailering of equipment.
- Report time and tasks completed to the Resource Conservationist and District Administration as directed.
- Handle various administrative and reception duties.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a major emphasis in biological or environmental science, soil science, geology, or equivalent field preferred;
OR a two-year college degree in biological or environmental science or equivalent field/ag related work experience plus applicable experience in related field
OR equivalent work experience in related field/agency.
Must be a USDA Certified Conservation Planner with relevant Job Approval Authority (JAA) or achieve within two years of hire date.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write correspondence and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to local units of government, management, public and private groups and organizations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Regular and timely work attendance, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, agencies, and clients; ability to work under stressful conditions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Driver’s license required.
Ability to pass a USDA security background check.
Possess UAS Drone pilot certificate (Part 107 commercial, unmanned aircrafts systems), or able to obtain in first 3 months of employment.
Physical Demands:
This work requires regular exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; while bending, twisting and lifting. Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, customer traffic).
